When it came to offroading in the mid 1970’s through the early ‘90s, two of the best choices available to motorists in the Three Rivers area were the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. Nearly fifty years later, how are these brands holding up? Does the new Ford Bronco, particularly the 2022 variant, live up to expectations? Does the Jeep Wrangler compete evenly with the Bronco still in terms of versatility and capability? Which one comes out better equipped for off-road adventures?
For these answers and more, DeNooyer Ford has put together the following information. Keep reading to learn more! Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions! When it comes to engine and transmission selection, both the 2022 Jeep Wrangler and the 2022 Ford Bronco have undeniably capable powertrains. That being said, as far as base-model setups go, the Bronco has a larger, more torque-heavy 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine compared to the one the Wrangler offers. On top of that, the 2022 Ford Bronco also adds an additional two gears to the count of the Wrangler’s 8-speed automatic transmission – meaning the Bronco undoubtedly provides a smoother shifting experience in situations such as freeway entrances. View the lists below for engines and transmissions offered in the Ford Bronco vs. the Jeep Wrangler.
Produces 310 horsepower and 400 ft-lb of torque
Produces 285 horsepower and 260 ft-lb of torque
Produces 260 horsepower and 442 ft-lb of torque
Produces 470 horsepower and 470 ft-lb of torque
As you saw above, the Wrangler does admittedly have a larger engine selection, meaning more powerful engines to choose from, too. But we feel that the smoothness of the 7 and 10-speed transmissions offered by the Bronco outweigh this difference in power. It’s also important to note that the upgraded engine and transmission are available to the 2022 Ford Bronco’s lowest trim level, while a major trim level upgrade is required for the Wrangler to boast a larger engine at all. Off-roading is about the steady delivery of power in the low-end, which the Bronco provides in spades.
We think the Jeep Wrangler is great, but at the end of the day we prefer the smooth driving, high-tech nature of the Bronco over the costly boost in power from the Wrangler. Don’t take our word for it, though – make the short trip from Portage to test drive the 2022 Ford Bronco in Michigan! We’re so confident that you’ll fall in love with one of the Ford Bronco models that we even suggest starting the finance application process from home!
