From the Classic Ford Bronco to Today

The Classic Ford Bronco: First Generation (1965–1977)

The classic Ford Bronco was an iconic vehicle, the Ford Bronco history explains why it was such a popular model in Schoolcraft and beyond:

• The original classic Ford Bronco was developed as a passenger-friendly off-road vehicle with a completely unique chassis
• The early Ford Bronco engine was a 105-hp inline-6
• The classic Ford Bronco didn’t need to be flashy to stand out, it did that anyways! 

Wasn’t There Another Old Ford Bronco?

There were several iterations of the classic Ford bronco archetype, check out some of the early Ford Bronco models below: 

Second Generation (1978-1980)

In 1978, the second generation of the classic Ford Bronco was considered a full-size SUV with a few changes:

• Retiring of the original Bronco chassis
• A wheelbase extension of 12 inches
• Only offered one configuration which was the three-door wagon. 

Third Generation (1980-1986)

The third-generation Ford Bronco was much smaller and lighter. It remained in the full-size class and continued with the chassis adapted from the F-series.

Ford Bronco II (1983-1990)

Ford released the Bronco II, it was the start of a new era of the classic Ford Bronco. It was inspired by the 1983 Ford Ranger and shared the latter’s engine. 

Fourth Generation (1987-1991)

This iteration kept the same chassis, but the interior and exterior were greatly updated. This was one of the only early Ford Broncos to include leather seats. 

Fifth Generation (1992-1996)

Most likely the most recognizable version of the classic Ford Bronco, it built off the previous generations while including new interior and safety features.

Sixth Generation (2021 – )

The most recent iteration of the classic Ford Bronco is now a mid-size SUV with a body-on-frame construction and a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost® inline-four engine.
